Eyeglass Lens Treatments: Necessary or Not?

Written by: melanie

So you’re finally getting around to updating your glasses and you have a few lens treatment options to consider:  scratch-resistance, anti-reflective treatment and UV protection.  Is your eyewear provider trying to trick you into spending extra money?  Not even close.

Anti-reflective treatment (AR):  This type of treatment can help cut glare from headlights and harsh lighting.  It can also help with the glare from your computer screen.  If any of you are staring at a Night Scene - Defocused Carcomputer screen for any length of time, I highly recommend adding an AR treatment to your glasses.

Scratch-resistance:  Unsightly scratches can interfere with how your lenses are supposed to function.  At the very least, it’s annoying and distracting.  On the opposite end of that spectrum, scratches can be dangerous.  This is not like adding a coating of Saran wrap to your lenses … this treatment actually toughens up your lenses which makes them more durable.  If you never leave the same spot and are covered in bubble wrap from head to toe, you don’t need this.  Everyone else – keep it in mind.

UV Protection:  Lenses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays are the ones you want.  This can help protect your eyes against the damaging effects of UV radiation.

Once you’ve had your eye exam, bring your prescription to us.  We do all lenses and lens treatments in-house so you know you’re getting the highest possible quality.  And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
